Yes, that dreaded Swine Flu that has maimed, killed, and left millions homeless across the US has struck Colorado as well. We had many concerned friends come yesterday bringing cookies, flowers, and get-well-wishes, but we were unable to open our doors to accept them, let alone leave our home to take anything to the other poor souls affected by the rampant disease. Please keep us in your prayers.

By the way, we're feeling much better today.

Six members of Bugs Moran's Irish Mob and a mechanic were inside.

Two members of Al Capone's Mafia (Bugs's rival) entered the garage, dressed as policemen.

Bugs's gang thought they were actually policeman, and obeyed their orders to line up against the wall.

The "policemen" then let two plain-clothesed gang members into the garage through the rear door.

Armed with shotguns and Tommy guns, they opened fire.

The four were able to leave the scene quietly by having the pair of men in plain-clothes escorted out by the pair dressed as police.

When the real police arrived, one of the dying men was asked who shot him. He replied "I'm not gonna talk - nobody shot me."

There was one survivor - a German Shepherd named Highball, found trapped and howling under a beer truck.

I forgot to post this back when it actually happened, but it's dumb enough that it's still blog-worthy.

Back in September, we took a trip to KANSAS for a family reunion!
We saw some exciting things, like this Wendy's sign!

That isn't what this post is about though.
We took two vehicles: my parents and Joe in one, Dave, Krista, Steve, and I in another. Dave drove the whole way, after already being awake for 36 hours or so for work. It's amazing we made it there alive.

That still isn't what this post is about though.
Because we took two vehicles, Steve and I were able to go back home early since we had school. YAHOO! No more sleepless nights in the infamous Pink Bedroom!

So, what is this post about?
It's about what Steve and I did while home alone.

First, we had some food.

Turns out, you're supposed to add stuff to mashed potato flakes. Huh...

Apparently plain cinnamon isn't so good either, so we decided to do some serious gourmet cooking.

While we were waiting for the meal to heat up, we played some indoor tennis.

Then we made dessert!

I still can't figure out why our parents were so worried...

Trail Ridge Road

Last Saturday we drove up to Estes Park and Trail Ridge Road (the part that was still open, anyway). No, this isn't the road.

A huge herd of Elksen were out; this is probably a 1/4 of them. (And yes, they are elksen. It's a special breed of elk that only I can identify.)

There were some great views.

But... we quickly got tired of the scenery and built a snowman.

Let that be a lesson to you to always keep vegetable trays in your cars. You never know when you're going to need tomato snowman eyeballs.

From there, it only got crazier.
I'll spare you from the rest.

Joe and I were mall-walking, when suddenly my toes froze and started falling off. I couldn't walk any further, so we had to stay where we were -- in front of Office Depot.

Luckily, we had all this stuff with us:

So began the Nerd Camping.

We ate wholesome food (There's a picture of corn on the back! It has to be good for you!) and did math exercises for fun!

Yes, that is a computer and 22" monitor in a tent. No, those aren't cheetos.

Steve Dawg Son Boi, a famous rap star, walked by for no apparent reason, saw how much fun we were having, and crashed the party.

A bum came along looking for cans in the shopping carts. We asked him to join us.

Steve Dawg Son Boi gave us some entertainment.

Steve Dawg Son Boi wouldn't stop entertaining us, despite being kindly asked not to.

10 hours in, the nerd party was still going. Tyler played a game called "Memorize the IPs" while I played Air-COD4.

Joe played the "Visualize the Algorithms" game.

Around 4:30, we looked outside our tent to find a huge line. The brilliant mob was lining up across the drive-lane rather than wrapping around the building on the sidewalk.

The line turned out to be for Best Buy (visible in the distance), where Steve Dawg Son Boi was scheduled to have a concert. We were under the Office Depot awning seen in the foreground.

Eventually Office Depot opened and we went in for no reason. The guy in the black baseball hat was upset to find out he was in the wrong place to hear the Steve Dawg Son Boi concert.

An hour later we somehow walked out with laptops.

Like we said last year... Never again.

No, no, I'm not sorry I didn't post. I'm sorry I'm posting again.
Just when you thought my pointless posting was gone for good -- mwahahahaha!

Ok, so after 2 months of posting nothing, it shouldn't be so hard to think of
something, but I guess I just don't know where to start.

Welp, you can never go wrong with a JAPANESE VIDEO!

In my MASSIVE amounts of free time over the last few months, I've enjoyed watching a few (cough more than a few cough) Japanese TV clips. I even learned some Japanese! (cough 3 words or so cough) Itadakimasu!
Anyway, I'll try to post some of my favorites every once in a while.

Other than that, I haven't really done much. Well, there it that whole college thing... but other than that, I've mainly been sleeping all day. Oh, I do get plenty of exercise. I walk at least 6 times a day from my bed to the fridge and back.

Anyway, here are some smidgens of the kinds of thing I've been working on when not sleeping or watching Japanese videos:

Ok, it's been a good experience, but more than anything it's been exhausting. Stress tends to take the fun out of things. Anyway, I have this entire week off for Thanksgiving, then I go back for 1 more week to present some final projects (that I have yet to finish), and then I'm DONE (until January...).

I had a great time at Water World last Saturday with some friends, but there are some things I learned that may benefit others planning to go:

1. Don't go on a Saturday.
2. Don't go on a day with a 50% chance of rain.
3. Take a bath in sunscreen before you go.
4. If you're over 400 pounds, please don't wear a skimpy swimsuit.
5. Once there, avoid contact with the "water" if at all possible.
6. If you must enter the water, don't get it in your mouth.
7. If you do get it in your mouth, find a shady spot, lie down with your arms crossed mummy-style, and prepare for a quick (and hopefully painless) death.
8. Don't go to the top of a ride before you've found out if it requires a tube.
9. Be aware that wave pools and the Zoomerang were invented by orthopedists who needed clients.
10. Be prepared to have a LOT of fun, especially if you go with good friends. :-D

No, I didn't record those -- I like my camera too much to take it to "Water" World.

(I'm majoring in Interior Design, which means my classes are at ACC's Art and Design Center. There seems to be an unspoken requirement for entering the building -- wearing odd clothing that is either way too big or way too small. For the girls there's a more specific rule -- all shoes worn must be either impossible to walk in, or must have come from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Thankfully I got a "Home Edjumacated" tattoo on my forehead, so I'm odd enough for them to let me in regardless of apparel.)

The Denver Brass

One of my birthday presents was tickets to the Denver Brass's "History of the Brass World: Part 1."

I guess it was a spoof on a Mel Brooks movie called "History of the World: Part 1" (to which there never was a "Part 2"). Although I've never seen the movie, the concert was quite funny.

Some of the things they played were:

- Also Sprach Zarathustra (the music on the video clip of my room filled with balloons (and 2001: A Space Odyssey))

- Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho

- Toccata from L'Orfeo by Monteverdi

- The Ride of the Valkyries (The "Kill the wabbit" song)

- The Liberty Bell by Sousa (Like "Stars and Stripes Forever" but better because it's not played as often... :-)

- Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man

- Star Trek's Theme :-P

- Lots more (It was a fairly long concert.)

They actually wore costumes like in the picture (and more...), and for a few parts, they even got up and played around the audience.

The point of this post --- Brass players are weird. Almost as weird as cello players.

But...if you have the chance to go to a Denver Brass concert -- go! (Unless you don't like fun, LOUD concerts with food during the intermission. :-D)

Watch out for school zones.

Microwaves are fun (until you have to clean up).

EBay is not fun (unless you enjoy heated email-debates).

If your computer speakers seem very quiet, check to see if you have headphones plugged in before turning your sound all the way up. When you do realize you have headphones plugged in, don't stick them in your ears until you turn your sound back down.

Energy drinks aren’t meant to be consumed in mass quantities on Saturday nights.

The golden Uzi is disappointing.

Snowboards have two bindings for a reason. You also aren’t supposed to snowboard, hike, or walk on sprained ankles for a reason.

The Broncos are horrible.

People who say “Pets are worth the time and money they consume” probably haven’t had a pet recently.

I’m not coordinated enough to do the Hokey Pokey, so if that’s what it’s all about, I’m doomed.

You are supposed to breathe at some point while playing the trumpet.

Some “drivers” enjoy suddenly backing up without looking behind them…

40-gallon watering carts are not meant to be pushed at full speed over bumps.

There’s a good reason why people always say “friends” when asked what they are thankful for -– life wouldn’t be worth living without friends to talk at and make fun of.

Time can tell when you’re having fun, and it intentionally speeds up.

Being OLD isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. (Yes, I have to say "Eh?" every 5 seconds, use a walker, and have my food puréed, but at least I can still collect miniatures and knit booties for my cat.)

New Camera

I had been wanting to buy my own camera for a while now, but instead I'll be contributing towards a new one for the family.

Me and my wonderful butter-fingers dropped our family camera about a month ago. It had been dropped many times before from far greater heights (and no, not always by me :-P). However, on this particular drop, it didn't "stick the landing."

So, I could either buy a the exact same one on eBay for $20, or UPGRADE! Thankfully, my dad consented to the latter.

After doing some research (although probably not as much as I should have done :-P), I talked my dad into a 12x optical zoom, 8mp Canon PowerShot S5 IS. We should receive it in a week or so...and I think I'm going to invest in a neck strap. ;-)

LAN GAMES AT LAST!

After our dearly departed Lakeside office became unavailable for LAN games, we had lost all hope of ever killing our friends again...
Yesterday, however, the Travers sensed our despair and came to our rescue! That magnificent evening had finally arrived! That glorious Friday night when we could once again waste time in a most enjoyably violent manner.
They set up tables and computers, and actually let us into their house! Not only that - they gave us food!
PIZZA! POP! OREOS! CHEETOS! CARROTS! (Yes, carrots, and they were by far the best carrots I've ever had.)
In addition to letting us invade their home and eat their food, they lowered themselves to our cave-man mentality and played along with us.
It was a TOTALLY AWESOME fun-filled time of crazed clicking that can't happen again for another 4 years. :-P
